It helps to say which iPhone and which iOS version you are on, and what you did just before it went wrong. Trail Tools collects no usage data at all, so nothing about the problem reaches anyone unless you describe it.
Questions that come up
The weather says it is unavailable
Weather needs two things: permission to use your location, and a connection. Check iOS Settings → Trail Tools → Location, then tap Try again on the home screen. The app never invents a forecast to fill the gap, so "unavailable" means exactly that.
How do I get a route into the app?
Any of these work: Map → + → Import GPX file; AirDrop a .gpx file to your
iPhone and choose Trail Tools; or open one from Files, Mail or a messaging app. Routes are grouped
by country once they are in.
Does Follow-Me keep running with the screen off?
Yes. Start it on a route, lock the phone and put it away. It shows on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island, and alerts you once when you leave the route and once when you are back on it. It waits for several position fixes before saying anything, so a moment of bad reception under a cliff does not set it off.
Can I use it with no signal?
Mostly, yes. Download the maps you need before you leave, under Map → Offline maps. Your routes, your position, Follow-Me and the packing list all work with no connection at all. Only the weather needs one, and the app says how old the reading is when you are offline.
The map looks plain, or I would rather use Apple Maps
Settings → Map source switches between Apple Maps and Mapbox. Mapbox draws trails, contours and huts; Apple Maps is always available.
How do I bring the tips back?
Settings → Tips → Show tips again. Every screen opens with a short note the first time, and once you have read one you can put it away for good.
Where is my data, and how do I delete it?
On your iPhone. Deleting the app deletes all of it — there is no copy anywhere else, and no account to close. The privacy policy says exactly what does and does not leave the phone.
Can I get my packing list out?
Yes. Lists export as CSV, and the Used filter exports just what you actually used, which is the list worth reading before the next trip. Import takes CSV as well.
